Greetings and salutations, people. On a plane coming back from CA. No internet, I will try to group things accordingly, but more old school style than new. Written on a plane and posted in Uber on way home. NOT edited. Forgive me for any grammatical errors.
EVERGREEN:
- ACC coaches want the March Madness field to extend to 72 teams. Do NOT do this. I am still mad at them for making it 68 teams. I have an idea. Why don’t we just seed EVERYONE and allow everyone in the mix? Joking of course. The field is fine. I DO think it is slightly unfair that the smaller conference teams are screwed if they don’t win their conference tourney, but some things in life can’t be fixed. And if the big conference teams are complaining, then they need to come clean and admit they shouldn’t be hovering around .500 in league play. I don’t want the regular season to be meaningless. No more teams.
- Nationals called up super prospect Juan Soto hitting a ball out on his first pitch I guess could be over-exaggerated. It is simply a little luck, and good timing, right? But, when you look at the list of players who have done this HR in their first game thing, you realize that it is a list of future great players for the most part. Well, more than you would expect for a simple lucky break. Check out the list. I am on a plane. You have the power. Those are some PLAYERS on that list and that can’t be written off too easily.
- Serena Williams will be unseeded for the French Open. This is ridiculous beyond a doubt. This is setting the precedent that women can’t have a kid during their tennis career. That is absurd. It is unfair that Serena has to “build” her resume after a 9 month absence. It is unfair to the poor top seeds that get her in the 2nd or 3rd It is unfair to the fans. You need to allow women to do this nature’s way part of life and not be penalized. Give them the 9 months. Give them three months to find their equilibrium. Then, start penalizing them.
- LeBron passing Kareem on the career playoff scoring list is absurd. Why? I remember Kareem getting that record with a full beard, older legs, and just trying to stay alive against the Celtics and Pistons. LeBron is still at his BEST right now. The guy’s consistency is crazy. To break that record at his younger age is remarkable to say the least. I might still be on the MJ side of the best ever debate, but I salute him on THAT record.
- The national anthem rule is owner biased. Point blank. We live in America. If someone wants to kneel during the anthem, let them. Now, we will have coverage telling us whether a guy was protesting or simply getting medical treatment during the Banner song.
WEEK-FISH:
- It is utterly ridiculous that the NHL and NBA differ so much on scheduling tactics. The NHL is tougher, harder, and more exhausting, yet they play every other night religiously pretty much and the NBA just took three full nights off from EITHER conference having a game.
- My wife hits a trifecta box and suddenly horse racing is so easy in my mind. Then, the Preakness comes along, I lay a ridiculous amount of tiny bets and get NOTHING. Back to reality. It sure was a lot more fun than either of these Conference Finals are in the NBA.
- Must be so boring for swimmer Katie Ledecky to keep breaking records she has already broken 5 times.
- I got on the plane and the Capitals were taking care of business at Tampa. So, I might miss some predictions, but I get some right too. I have had Golden Knights over Capitals for quite a long time on my prediction area of the website.
- There is a large group of people who still don’t know who this Luka Doncic cat is from Europe. You will. He will go top three in the NBA draft. And, he was Final Four MVP of his title winning team in a VERY difficult league. Learn about this guy before you are asking others who the heck this guy is.
- Although I love the Golden Knights, I will say their pregame skit might have been the dumbest thing I have seen in a while. Knight on the ice fighting an incoming Jet hologram. Don’t Google it. Stare blankly at a wall for 5 minutes and you did something more constructive.
- You can say you won’t. I can say I won’t. But, we probably will. What? Watch Johnny Football play a few downs in the CFL. I admit it. Car crash cliché.
- Sure, we have had guys throw heaters. But, when and how and the immediate repetition was what was awesome about how Jordan Hicks accomplished his multiple 105 MPH feat.
- I am sure you want to feel a little bad for Clemson football given that five star recruit has announced he will transfer. Well, don’t. They now are down to only TWO five star QB’s on their sad team.
- If you weren’t scared of the Astros after their World Series win, well then maybe try THIS one. The top three pitchers in the American League in ERA as of two days ago were ALL Astros pitchers.
- Here is another ominous stat for you. I want the Angels in the playoffs SO bad to enjoy watching Millville NJ guy Mike Trout do his thing, but here is a scary number. They are 6-1 when Ohtani starts. They are a .500 team when he doesn’t.
- I am fine with soccer and women’s soccer. So, know I am just reporting something that caught my eye. I clicked on a link about Brandi Chastain’s new plaque. You need to also. I won’t ever say I should be a professional artist, but I KNOW I could make a better one freehand. It TRULY looks like Gary Busey with a hint of Jimmy Carter. Look it up.
- Well, I don’t know about you, but Richie Incognito throwing a dumbbell at someone in a gym and being sent to be evaluated mentally and Lenny Dykstra threatening an Uber driver with drugs in his possession just sounds about right to me…
ODDS AND ENDS/POP CULTURE:
- I have switched gears from Breaking Bad catchup to full focus on Billions. I think some of the lure is that Billions is still being made, so it makes a little more fun at the water cooler (once I catch up).
- Westworld needs some big development or maybe a big death. It is losing my wife slowly, and I will be transparent and say I am hanging in there more out of curiosity of where this whole thing goes more than being addicted and waiting until Sunday.
- By the way, my friend, John, had a good point on Westworld. If all of these worlds are where people pay to go visit and get away, then how come Samarai World is English-less?
- I think I miss Silicon Valley and Barry right now.
- I would have to say that eating Carl’s Jr and McDonald’s back to back at the airport probably isn’t the brightest idea in the world.
- Rapture by Underoath is not only my favorite song right now, my favorite workout song right now, but also is on MAIN radio as BPI has picked it up. Heck of a song.
- Foiled again. I had Sundance a couple of years ago on The Voice as my guy (against wife’s choice). This year, I had mini-Matt Damon…Britton. Second place. Wife’s pick. First place.
- White Pie. Since we are moving, we are hitting our favorite Uptown restaurants. You really need to go check it out. It has ridiculous meat and cheese boards, great drinks, and the best lasagna I have had outside of Rome. 17th and Humboldt in Denver. It was so good and I said this was my new favorite place. Lindsey said she knew where to take me for my birthday. But, when we looked at our Passbook, we realized she had already done that LAST year.
- I went to see You Were Never Really Here finally after the false alarm last week. It was a short, high quality movie I would highly recommend. Phoenix is Oscar worthy in it without a doubt. Think Taxi Driver merged with Memento with a naughty subject involved. Dark, violent, and keeps you guessing a little on what you are rooting for.
- We went to see that movie at a 920am showing. From here out, put me on record as saying you should never start your day with a truffle popcorn breakfast only. Not a good idea.
- I won’t put down marathon running people. But, when I see a guy in a basketball jersey and backwards hat texting on his phone during his walking of the marathon, I will assume he just lost a bet or really wanted that T-Shirt.
- My wife found me another PERFECT joke. I love this one. Mountains aren’t funny. They are hill-areas!!!!!!!!!!
- I feel like I am in a time warp. So, Mr. Johnson is the highest paid actor in Hollywood. Yes, he is a big dude. Now, his new movie is something about rescuing his family from a skyscraper while having to dodge authorities too? I know Bruce Willis is too old now, but is he just redoing his 1990’s career? If we are bringing back decades, can I write some new Winger and Dokken songs? Will that work too?
- I have an addictive personality so it is a big deal I have dodged video games as a pastime. But, I will tell you if I read too many more articles about this Fortnite game and MLB players loving it, I might have to restrain myself. Sounds like a lot of fun.
- I don’t stray from sports and pop culture too much, but I wanted to share this very depressing and eye opening statistic. The U.S. has had 288 school shootings since 2009. The next closest country worldwide? EIGHT.
- I don’t think I will have bandwidth to do this KKFN fan contest with my upcoming move taking a LOT of my time. Plus, I would probably feel like Chandler from Friends when he got that intern job. I think I need to keep pushing my site and the writing aspect.
- A pizza party occurred at my work while I was traveling and I truly am very sad I missed it. Make when I am away the taco or other food day. I don’t want to miss pizza.
- Ever since I saw Seinfeld live, I have trying to stop saying “It is what it is.” Tougher project than I thought.
