Catch Of The Day

Point Break.

HOOK:

“World Cup.”

The U.S. looked very sharp in the rematch against Guatemala.  Getting past the point they SHOULD look sharp against that lower tier team AND shouldn’t have gotten BEATEN Friday, things have semi-righted themselves.  Listen, maybe they should lose the coach, but the facts of the matter are this.  A)  Our talent pool isn’t as deep (primo athletes choose other sports) as other upper level teams so finding the right lineup IS tough. B) The changes he made for this match were RIGHT.  I am not a fan of him, but he still gave us a mini run in the last World Cup no matter how you slice it.  They scored four goals last night, and they should have had 4 at halftime as they missed two very obvious opportunities in the first frame.  Do I have hope of big aspirations in the World Cup?  A little or maybe less.  Do I think we have a good enough team to BE there?  Yes.  This is coming from a guy who watched first hand that Mexico loss in CA last year.

LINE:

“Greek Freak.”

Those of us who are basketball junkies knew about the Greek Freak even before the NBA draft a couple years ago.  We just didn’t know the fun would start NOW.  If I am a Bucks fan, I am excited for the NBA draft now that you already have a 6’11” POINT GUARD.  Yes, Giannis Antetokounmpo will take his talents to point guard from now on, and he should.  Since transitioning to his new position in February, he is averaging a ridiculous 19/7/7.  Ignore their recent 5 game losing streak.  Their overall record is an improvement, and now at least they know they are VERY set at PG.  And we thought Magic looked cool running the point…

SINKER:

“Lakers.”

Lakers fans have been riding the retirement ceremonies of Kobe Bryant all season while getting pummeled most of the time (some games by 48 points like the other night).  They brim with proud feelings, knowing they have once again housed one of the best players of all time.  Then, today’s story broke.  D’Angelo Russell taped a casual conversation with Nick Young about his girl stories, and Nick is engaged since last June.  This has caused an obvious divide in the locker room…even to the point of players getting up from the table when D’Angelo sat down next to him.  Sad stuff.  For a guy with arguably the best court vision in years and the “future” of the franchise, this couldn’t have come at a worse time.  The league is better when the Lakers are better, and that might have just hit a speed bump.  Good luck, L.A.

THE RIVER:

-Tony Parker probably and unfortunately is hitting the nail on the head when he says that the Spurs will most likely sit their stars late in the season if their seed is secure no matter if the Warriors are trying to get a record or not.  Pop…is Pop.

-Are their Vegas bets on who the new singer of One Shining Moment is?  Of all the leaks I want in life, THAT is one near the top.  I think we DO need a refresh though.  Luther’s days are behind him.

-It is great that high quality FSU DB Jalen Ramsey is from Nashville and WANTS to go to the Titans.  The guy who is going first is STILL a treasure that doesn’t come along very often, so Jalen’s wants are adorable but barking up the wrong tree.

-He is undersized for his position in the NBA and probably wouldn’t amount to much more than a backup, but the definition of stopping progress on that note is Montrezl Harrell pushing a D-League ref and getting suspended five games.

-Still letting the Final Four games marinate, but odd that my more positive pick right now is OU and not UNC.  Hmmm.  That Cuse zone.

-In the story about Gronk being the first athlete to use the 60 second functionality of Instagram and learning about his offseason, I also found out that he ONLY lives on endorsement money and has not spent ONE cent of his years of salary yet.  Interesting, and oddly impressive.

-Capel should show interest in the Georgia Tech job, and Larranaga shouldn’t.  Lateral move from Miami to GTech, unless he really believes Miami will always just be a football school.  Jim has built something there and should stay.

-I assume that we will hear right when it happens IF UCONN women lose, right?  Not even sure when they play again to be honest.

-The most exciting thing about The Voice this year is that there is no beyond obvious Jordan Smith winner.

-Vlade Divac got extended on his VP job, and since he came into late to the 10 straight seasons without a playoff series, I guess he can’t do any worse.

-Voodoo is cool and all, but pretty sure Anthony Davis just needs some other good players as opposed to being totally jinxed.

-Melo, we don’t CARE if you are excited about winning at the Olympics.

-The obvious case against Jose Reyes was dropped because the wife wasn’t being cooperative, so I am sure he learned his lesson for real now.

-I sometimes am more jealous of semi-rich people as opposed to really rich people.  Falcons LB Sean Weatherspoon’s fiancee FOUND a week 1 check under a pillow or mattress or in a stack of mail while moving.  Dude didn’t know a $138k check wasn’t cashed.  Wow.  Must be nice.

-Yao Ming will be inducted into the Naismith HOF.  Oh, what could have been with that likable and marketable guy if he would have stayed healthy.

That’s it for today.  Will I blog tomorrow?  That is a CLOWN question, bro.  Peace.
