Catch Of The Day

Old McDonald Had A Farm…

HOOK:

“Hope.”

I have no idea why I love Hope Solo’s antics as much as I do, or why I like seeing her mad or sad.  But, I do.  Should this be my lead story?  Maybe not.  But it just put a smile on MY face after a long day.  Twenty five seconds of ecstacy.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_cu1hMwsgI
LINE:

“Press.”

I have an idea for the NFL.  Instead of releasing to the media about possible Al-Jazeera infractions and then bullying the players to be interviewed, why don’t you wait a bit and do all of that stuff privately and then make the decision whether to let us know?  Ridiculous report about Mr. Manning last time, and now all three players have been cleared in the most recent one.  Your intentions are good, but your methods are not.

SINKER:

“Vikings.”

First, the bad.  A QB is very important to a football team.  That is obvious.  The Bridgewater injury is not good.  Second, for a fan base that was really feeling like this was a big move year (I am a non Vikings fan in that boat), this is a punch in the gut.

But, there are good things.  First, their offense does not RELY on the QB as much as other teams and it has many other weapons.  And, we also know their backup situation is bad.  Shaun Hill is NOT taking down Green Bay single handedly anytime soon.  Second, there are options.  Find an unhappy slightly proven QB and you have a second wind.  I wonder if phone calls are going out right as I write this to Mr. Flag Sitter and Mr. Eternal Grumpy Backup of the Jets.

Not the end of the world.

THE RIVER:

-Antonio Brown’s restructured contract keeps within the unwritten Steelers contract rules, yet makes him happy for now.  I like it.  $10 million for a year not so shabby, and we can now assume a new long term deal will be done.

-FSU WR Travis Rudolph eats lunch with an autistic child voluntarily.  This is marvelous.  Seriously.  I remember the 90’s, when FSU players doing anything nice just didn’t happen.  Good stuff.

-Coco Crisp is back with the Indians.  Dude is 36, although I feel like 20 years from now he will be A) an excellent trivia question and B) still playing for MLB.

-CFP/ NFL predictions are coming, but…not yet.  I have two more days.  Not as much time today.  I probably will give it its own blog Friday afternoon.  I need another day of figuring out whether my OU prediction for the playoff is real, or a result of being married into a family that lives and breathes Sooners.  Tough to draw the line where you are or are not brainwashed.

-Apparently, one of my fantasy football leagues just vanished.  The Fillerbuster is interested in joining a second league.  One is not enough, and three is too many.  Please let me know if anyone has spaces.  Interestingly enough, my team name in whatever other league I join will not be Fillerbuster.  It is traditionally One Arm Steve.  Long story.  Panic song.

-I am so confused by this unknown team/ Puig/ Dodgers thing.  I am more confused that previously cocky Puig sounds like a normal human being an ex-super human baseball player suffering in AAA.  Slightly humbled?  Can’t be.

-Siemian feels like such a starting QB that he even tweeted his sympathy to Teddy Bridgewater after his injury.  You know.  Starting QB to starting QB.

-Rodney Harrison.  It was kind of confusing with all the joking pictures of Kaep’s white “parents” floating around, but pretty sure you could have done some detective work and figured it out before saying what you said.

-I don’t know about you, but I remember when some of us thought that Zach Mettenberger might end up being a pretty darn good NFL QB.

-I wouldn’t exactly call it a hobby, but I do like rehashing and checking my knowledge at all of these guys released from NFL teams at this time of year and remembering whether they were supposed to be good or not.  I am easily entertained.

-Sadly, ex Air Force QB Dee Dowis died in a car crash the other day.  He was an Air Force guy so obviously a good guy off the field, but most people forget he was 6th in Heisman voting after breaking all kinds of QB rushing records.

-I live in a state with 300 days of sunshine, and our team builder for work ends up on the date of a rainout.

-I haven’t watched Ivo Karlovic play a tennis match yet, but after his record 61 aces, I might have to check him out.

-Kyle Edmund is set (no pun intended) to play John Isner in the 3rd round, and assume he is loading up on fluids as we speak given that playing Isner at the US Open leads to more 5 set matches than playing anyone else.

-Why do they call it an “Open” and still play “qualifiers?”  Because of matches like Ryan Harrison beating tennis stud Milos Raonic.

-It really depresses me that the reviews of Tebow’s exhibition were mixed and not bad.  I really wanted more Tebow material.  Dammit.  He can hit a little.

-In stakeholder news, no movement.  $1 per people if the person who subscribes tells me you referred them.

-In finance news, I owe Vince a beer and Bryan S. still owes me $40.

-No prizes, Rudy, but I don’t go anywhere this long weekend and I feel a little burrito trivia coming.

-In Spanish news, Vince is now 5% fluent and his voicemails are definitely sounding more natural.

-In time news, Greg, it was an hour to post this, but with an asterisk.  Lindsey came home so there were several breaks.  Probably 33 minutes real time.

-And as Stephen Baldwin so eloquently said in The Usual Suspects after the gunfight in the parking garage…”Bad day?  F*&@ it.”

-Never seen the movie?  Ok.  First of all, shame on you.  Second of all, when you do, give yourself time for 5 hours.  Two hours to watch, one hour to process, and two more hours to immediately watch it again.  Brilliant movie.  Probably my favorite aside from Princess Bride, Top Gun, and Hoosiers.

That’s it for today.  Will I blog tomorrow?  That is a CLOWN question, bro.  Peace.
