Catch Of The Day

Pizza, Earth Day, and Bronze.

Busy day tomorrow, being as I have to work the morning, and then our wedding anniversary. I am waiting to post this on Facebook and IG until our actual anniversary, and she doesn’t read this (I actually don’t think anyone in her 500 person network even READS this thing), so you (ten readers or so) all get a sneak peak. Nine more great pics will be on FB tomorrow morning.

Pizza, Earth Day, and Bronze.

It has been a minute.  My thoughts on a couple things to get a Catch out.

First of all, Earth Day, April 22nd, is also our wedding anniversary.  I know this is a sports blog, but it is my website and therefore my rules.  So, before I hit my hot sports takes, I want to have a take on my hottest take, my wife.  Here is what I wrote up for our eight year wedding anniversary.

I love pizza.  I NEED pizza.  I could eat it every single day, every single meal.  And, I am very glad I needed it that particular night years ago.  This marriage began as a late night trip for pizza after the local pub I was a regular at.  Benny Blancos.  Nothing revolutionary or overly romantic.  Other beginning stories for other couples will certainly trump us for cuteness, but most of those competing stories will not end up as a better result.  I will take the result over the meet in a heartbeat.  Got her number and texted her WAY too fast.  No call back.  But, I kept trying and clawing.  It developed into a relationship that gets more solid every day.  Hiccups with bad times, summits with fantastic times, travel together to remote places, quiet nights at home watching movies, new restaurant addictions, board games on the porch, one-sided pool games, two cats that we try to love, two dogs that we could never do anything but love, and everything in between.

I said this in my wedding vows and will say it again.  Every single past mistake and bad decision I have made in life has led me to perfection and bliss in my present life.  Lindsey is that perfection.  Because of her, I regret absolutely nothing.

Beautiful, smart, clever, funny, and my best friend in life.  There is ALWAYS a brief of long moment of every single day that I fall in love with her all over again.  I pinch myself every day because I know I got extremely lucky that she picked me.

It is our eight year anniversary on Earth Day, and it just keeps getting better.  The speed bumps, arguments, and debacles are pebbles in comparison to the rock that is our steadfastness.  I just made that line up.

I am big into the traditional theme each year for the anniversary.  This time is it is bronze.  The traditional symbol of this year, bronze, means stability, reliability, and dependability, and is spot-on with my wife.  Her presents will reflect bronze, of course, along with the annual references to Earth Day.  Why did I pick Earth Day?  At the time, I lived and died by sports watching, and I cross-referenced destination wedding available dates with the least busiest sports times of the year.  I didn’t want to be watching the TV at my wedding.  I have never invented an algorithm, but I am pretty sure I made a wedding algorithm at the time.  I can live without Round 1 of the NHL and NBA Playoffs.  The theme of the wedding was Princess Bride, and I still try to abide by “As you wish.”

On this 2024 Earth Day, I “root” for us, you “ground” me, and I will never “leave” you.

I love pizza, Earth Day, bronze, and my wife.  You are my lady, my love, my Buttercup, my Sweet Child o’ Mine, and my Forever.  Happy Anniversary, Wife.

Actually, let’s focus on the wedding anniversary.  My MUCH more brief sports takes are as follows:

  • The women’s and men’s college hoops title games were exactly the same.  Two machines against one amazing player with four role players.
  • I really am confused how UVA didn’t offer Dawn Staley a job when she retired from playing.
  • Masters:  Cautiously aggressive.  The moment that Colin Morikawa tried to go left on 13, I knew they weren’t catching Scottie.  I actually left my house after that shot and let me wife NOT watch golf.  Know the course.  Be aggressive when the setup is good.  Take advantage of the Par 5’s.  Simple stuff.  Otherwise, just play for pars and hope a putt or two goes in.
  • If the Celtics can’t make the NBA Finals with Giannis, Jimmy, and others down for the count, then they need to totally rethink their approach and makeup.
  • LeBron is the second best ever, AD is an often hurt guy who is the best defensive front court player when healthy, and Austin Reaves is a lethal shooter, but the Nuggets are a well oiled machine, and ESPN will need alternative content once we beat them…again.
  • I hope Stephen A. Smith gets turned down from all fancy hotels and he has to stay in a motel.
  • The Avalanche enter the playoffs, again, with the best player in the NHL and the worst goalie in the NHL.  It has worked out 50% of the time the last few seasons. Starting on the road was not optimal though.
  • Big news.  I have officially dissed DIRECTV.  I am a streaming guy now.  It is SO much cheaper and better.  I made my wife wait until after March Madness for comfort sake, but now wish we did it three years ago after March Madness.  Not sure what to do with the big dish on my roof now.  As far as other stuff, I am working out multiple times a day, but that is because that is what you have to do after 50 if you want to still be good looking.  Wait until YOU get there.  Not fun.  I used to bench 300 and then go eat McDonald’s.  Not anymore.
  • Jontay Porter could have gotten away with the 15-20 bets on, against, or with other teams.  But, the moment that he involved a bettor throwing down $80k on an under for him and exiting before the three minute mark, he was toast.
  • Nuggets over Celtics in 7.
  • Avalanche…will lose to the Jets.
  • That is it.  Just my quick thoughts for you, and be well until my return.
