Catch of the Day

Writing this less confused than JR Smith is about learning the triangle offense and knowing it certainly won’t be until January when I do understand my blog…

Double dose today as there will be a full blog at happy hour tonight after work and gym.

College picks coming tonight for tomorrow’s games…

One hook and one hook only for now…

THE TEMPORARY DOWNTRODDEN STATE OF AMERICAN FOOTBALL

I am not depressed.  I am ready to watch 5-6 games this weekend.  But, overall, we are at a temporary, and I mean TEMPORARY, low.  Concussions.  Sexual assaults.  Charities covering for sex parties (no, this is not all about A.P.).  Alleged illegal autograph processes.  Heroes before a sexual assault where we are trying to be pushed information that the FEMALE was the aggressor at 3am with not one but TWO males.  Like that is possible.  Is the violence of football transposing to off field activities?  It is a shame.  It is a fantastic game where the athletes as a whole need to reel themselves in.  Coming from someone who was the classic frat boy at school, I suppose this might sound hypocritical.  Maybe.  But it is what it is, and I have a blog where I can voice my opinion.  When I was a frat boy, I also didn’t have millions of dollars in the palm of my hand.  Stop it, guys.  Play video games at home without smoking pot.  Be nice to the ladies.  Ask about processes and what might get you banned.  With Gurley alone and with Mariota already losing and facing a tough game against UCLA, we are down to meager pickings for our 2014 Heisman.  Dak Prescott will probably go down this week to Auburn, stopping that phenomenon.  Amari Cooper has ONE vote for third place or higher thus far.  Golson and Marshall will probably creep into the conversation.  But I digress, and this is not a column…just a longer hook.  Teach these kids that when you average over EIGHT yards per carry in the toughest conference in the land, you might want to ask about rules.  IF that is what the violation was at all.  Anyway, I am babbling.  My point is I hope this collective group of youngsters stops going all Reggie Bush and Lawrence Phillips and has quiet nights at home here and there.  Stop telling people with your urine sample that you smoked pot while on probation.  Stop even BEING in bad situations even if you are proven innocent (Harris).  Just STOP.  Football is the greatest game (outside of college basketball).  Treat it and people off the field with respect.  You will get paid in respect and money.  I am not saying you have to be Barry Sanders off the field, though if you were, you might be more like Barry Sanders ON the field.  Actually, no you won’t but that is neither here nor there.  Bring this game slowly back to being loved on all levels.  I want more stories on charity work and helping kids.  I want the wire not to be a source for my new Rant Squad members.  I want the beauty and athletic violence of the sport to be just that.  That is all for now.  Talk to you later.
