Catch of the Day.

HOOK:

“Fun.”

I stand corrected.  I said yesterday I may or may not watch the antics.  I have watched years of home run derby and almost skipped last night.  I looked at my lady and said “well, I at least have to get a feel for this new format.”  Boom.  I will paraphrase Johnny Bench and say that taking the one sport that doesn’t care about a clock and PUTTING a clock in the mix for the home run event, and you have a SHOW.  Throw in a hometown player and you have a FANTASTIC show.  That was, simply put, a lot of fun to watch.

Having a Jersey boy be that winner with Sinatra on in the background made it even better, if possible.

LINE:

“Record.”

As in broken record, but it is what it is.  I said Tiger had the course in hand for the US Open to make a comeback statement because of its link like play and length.  Well, now we have St. Andrews, where he has won it 2 of the last 3 times when the British was held there. It IS a links course.  Tiger says “I am still right here in front of you.”  Well, got a feeling I will be in front of the television on Sunday morning asking “where are you, Tiger?  Not right in front of me…”  Hope I am wrong.  And before anyone says I talk about Tiger too much, get your head around this. He was SO RIDICULOUSLY good for that period of time that the residual IS this long, so deal with it.  Bottom line, the tidal wave level of play he achieved has ripples that will go for another few years even if he wins nothing.  Get comfortable and buy some ear plugs.  Plus, it is the Open at St. Andrews.  Have you NO love for one of the best events in sports?

SINKER:

“$50k.”

That is what I am ballparking someone would be happy to be paid to be a personal driver for a professional athlete.  Pick them up at bars.  Pick them up at clubs.  Pick them up at house parties.  Get them home safe.  Ty Lawson evidently likes the thrill of the drive.  Busted again last night.  This would be idiotic enough if his starting job wasn’t in danger by a mature beyond his years rookie.  It is one thing to be out and about when not playing summer league at 2am in L.A.  It is another thing to be busted for boozing and thus not appear like you were putting hours in the gym late night to make sure you keep your job.

Trade him already.  Ugghhh.

That’s it for today.  Talk to you tomorrow.  Peace.
