Catch Of The Day

The quieter centerpiece of the big trade…

Thoughts for the day…

  1. Greetings and salutations, people.  Thanks for coming aboard (the boat).  Quick one today.  Let’s turn and burn.
  2. This Revis story is getting weirder and weirder.  I guess we should all reserve judgement until they figure it all out.  Maybe not his voice on the recording?  Another guy involved who probably does NOT make eight figures most likely?  Interesting.  “Hey, sir.  Which guy hit you?  The one with the big salary or the one without?”
  3. I have not seen The Accountant yet oddly.  So, I don’t get all of these jokes.  But, now I kind of HAVE to see it to explain a couple of them.  http://theconcourse.deadspin.com/24-questions-i-have-about-the-accountant-1792548604
  4. Dexter Fowler, don’t let the haters tell you to stick to sports.  You should NOT back down from your Trump comments considering your family situation.
  5. Rick Ankiel, you are one of the oddest baseball stories out there.  I might have had some vodka also before a game when A) you were facing Randy Johnson in his prime and B) I had thrown FIVE wild pitches the last game out.
  6. The Jags will trade Julius Thomas to the Dolphins.  Probably a good call for a change of scenery for that guy.  No Peyton to wake up his stats, but Adam Gase was on the Broncos staff when Julius put up those massive numbers.
  7. I am presently watching my Wahoos vs. Miami, but still kind of mad at them for their no show Saturday night against UNC. They need a win after dropping three straight.  The losses were against good teams or on the road, but still need a win to right the ship.
  8. Wolves are my favorite animal anyway, but this is pretty cool no matter if you like them or not.  https://weloveanimals.me/released-14-wolves-park-no-one-prepared-unbelievable-nature11/
  9. Not a bad life DJ is living.  Married to the daughter of the greatest hockey player of all time and expecting second baby.  #1 in the world.  Winner yesterday.  If I heard him complain about a bad meal or being sick, I would be pretty abrasive in telling him to shut up.
  10. Friday.  Read Ten Things by Zach Lowe.  Today was Monday.  Did you read MMQB?  You should.  Always.  Football season or not.  http://mmqb.si.com/
  11. USC continued their absurd recruiting run by landing the #1 OLB and #41 prospect overall.
  12. Michigan State lost another player??  They are having some serious problems.  IF they sneak in the tourney, there won’t be any magical deep run like past years.  Talent and depth are NOT there.
  13. Come on, NBA.  Get Jimmer Fredette back over here.  73 points in a game?  Free Jimmer.
  14. Greg Olsen’s kid brother is NOT an improvement.  Not even close.  After getting ejected from Miami and then second chance Towson, he did just well enough at another bridge school to get into UNC Charlotte.  Busted for rape.  That kid needs help.
  15. NBA ASG.  I DO love it, but last night got a little out of hand.  I get trying to get hometown Anthony Davis the MVP.  I get putting on a show for the fans.  But the defense is starting to look a little like the NFL Pro Bowl debacle.  We need to figure out something.  Actually, we need to figure out something for every ASG outside of baseball…which is fine.
  16. Ok, the big trade.  I won’t overload you since it has been covered for almost the last 24 hours.  Here is the deal.  It needed to be done, but I might have held out until closer to the trade deadline if I was Vlade.  Cousins generated a stat line but not wins.  Cousins was a problem on and off the court.  Cousins got coaches fired.  Cousins didn’t seem to gel with anyone ON the court.  Also, the Kings owner LOVES shooters.  Although Sactown has already had Tyreke on their team, Buddy Hield and the draft picks are the real story here.  They see special things in Buddy and want to be the owners if that specialness starts surfacing.  We will be watching the ex-OU star as he will be tied to this trade for years.  I wouldn’t say it was a horrible trade for either team.  It is just different parts.  Not sure how Cousins and Davis will co-exist, but they are both big men with vision, a handle, shooting, and some guard skills, so they will work it out…or organize another trade-lol.  One more thing I haven’t heard people talk about.  Cousins is a player on a very short list with the new CBA of players who can make 10 years/ $209 million for the same team they were on.  By trading him, the Kings dodge having to make that decision in a year or so.  AND, the Pelicans CAN’T offer that to him because he changed teams.  Interesting method that kind of screwed his total leverage.  And a little funny.  He got himself exiled.  He did it to himself.
  17. Oh.  Curious about that very short DPE list?  Here you go.  One less person on it now.
  18. That’s it for today.  Hope you enjoyed or are at least more informed.  Will I blog tomorrow?  That is a CLOWN question, bro.  Onward and upward.  Peace.
