Try not to peek online first each night, and the swimming events are off the charts. My phone downloaded the 200 fly winner when I went to check an email, but it was still incredible. Phelps has delivered and then some thus far. Ledecky had a close race, but let’s keep in mind her sweet spots are the longer distance races, where people get articles written about them if they hang within a half lap.
Can NBC just show stuff when it happens even if it means interrupting some news or something?
And freaking enjoy the sports it takes you the entire viewing time to understand the rules and know you won’t watch…for another four years. ENJOY them.
LINE:

Not about swimming. About basketball. I am sitting here writing this while watching the Australia-USA basketball game. It doesn’t eliminate anyone, but it DOES present a team with multiple NBA players that make the USA team actually pay attention. It was 54-49 Aussies at the half. USA is presently making a surge. Still a game worth watching though, even if the USA pulls away here shortly. Australia can ball. Or at least FIVE of them can.

Horrible news during the morning today. You can try, but you will not find one SINGLE person in the media or in the masses who disliked what they knew about John Saunders, his delivery, and his approach. He died today at 61. He was a mainstay in many different sports, and sounded effortless and natural in all of them. As a forty something year old, I got to enjoy him at every stop on the air. As a person and as a sportscaster, he WILL be missed.
THE RIVER:
-Assuming those swimming cup things on everyone’s body will be researched pretty thoroughly after the Olympics, and WHY does Phelps have a couple near his crotch when they are supposed to be near key SWIMMING joints of the body?
-Until going to the a fundraiser last night, I hadn’t been to the newer Illegal Pete’s on Colfax near York. That location is NICE.
-Isn’t this new Sully movie just the same kind of movie with less alcohol and Tom Hanks instead of Denzel? Looks like it in the previews.
-I actually LIKE Lochte’s hair.
-This is the first year of boxing not having head gear. I must be missing something. How are they able to fight all of these people without head gear in the small amount of time the Olympics are held?
-Years from now when Melo still doesn’t have a ring, I guess we will have to hear about how he was the best Olympics player…ugghhh.
-Gets suspended after going nuts in an exhibition game. I love his competitiveness, but driveway bball games must be HELL with Gregg Marshall involved.
-There are not many people who love Majors and Grand Slam events in tennis and golf and definitely not many people who love BOTH as much as I do, but just not buying tennis and golf in the Olympics…sorry.
-Kind of like the soccer teams worldwide pretty much wearing “This is not Euro or the World Cup on their headbands.”
-That last second goal by Columbia against the USA didn’t hurt them, but WAS a lapse slightly.
Close game, end of third quarter…gotta go.
