Catch of the Day.

HOOK:

“Seed.”

This is going to be awesome.  Sure, everyone loves an underdog and they ARE fun.  And, most of the time in the NFL, we get one top tier favorite against someone we are not sure whether they should be there or not.  Yell about your hatred of Tom Brady, hate The Hoodie, crack on Pete Carroll’s new world coaching style, be excited for Gronk’s media day, be differently excited about Lynch’s media day, ask for less Richard Sherman quotes, complain about the NFL OT rule (hey, it used to be WORSE), miss Andrew Luck’s voice (got to get HOME field advantage, guy, and not start off 0-2), and wonder if Russell Wilson will sail into the baseball sunset if he wins again (doubtful).  Do ALL of these things, because this doesn’t happen often.  #1 seed vs. #1 seed.  No one can even figure out the opening betting line it seems.  We have a couple weeks to discuss the game.  All I am saying today is that I am happy we have no sweethearts and that it is a heavyweight showdown.

LINE:

“Fourteen.”

I like Max Scherzer as a guy and a pitcher, his stats are solid, he is only 30, and you get paid what someone will pay you.  Not sure how the math will end up working out in the end, but it looks like the Nationals are forking out a record $50 million signing bonus, 7 years for $210 million, and will be paying him $15 million annually for 14 years.  Arms are hard to find and everyone wants to find that Madison Bumgarner that will put them on their back in a World Series, but this is a NOT for someone who hasn’t even won 100 games in his career and relies on ground balls more than K’s.

SINKER:

“Replay.”

We assume it has been around forever, and forget that someone had to invent that instant replay thing we all love to a high degree.  Happy Trails to the inventor, Tony Verna, who died at the age of 81.

Deflated football investigation?  Can’t wait to hear the jokes on THIS one.

Eight…EIGHT seeded women went down in Day ONE of the Aussie Open.  That is amazing…and sad.

That is all for today.
