Catch of the Day.

What a fantastic five days of Major golf.  I already look forward to the PGA Championship.  Zach Johnson is no longer a guy who has just “won one.”  He transforms into something else after today’s win in extra holes.  Winning one puts you in an elite club but doesn’t mean you didn’t have some fortuitous bounces along the way.  Winning a second one on a totally different type of course brands you as someone who should not be trifled with.  I had a feeling about Zach Johnson before the tourney, but it seemed pretty obvious he has been playing well.  If not, I would not have selected a guy about to play a links course who is ranked 162nd in driving distance.  But, he played to his strengths, respected the golf course, and took advantage when he could of good scoring chances personally and per the weather overall.  Jason Day did not hit the birdies down the stretch he needed when others were making their move.  Louis missed two putts in the last 6 holes that he probably knew were SEIZING the championship kind of putts.  Spieth did fine, and it is absolutely amazing he lost by ONLY one stroke with some of the putting holes he did.  Leishman was a GREAT story, but the wheels fell off in extra holes.  As far as comments on anyone else, I really had the feeling that this might be Adam Scott’s or Sergio’s day watching the beginning of their day.

Whatever.  That is why it is a MAJOR and you can’t typically back into a win.  Congrats, Zach.  You were definitely the worthy champion.
