Catch of the Day.

Quick one before the longer weekend blog Sunday…

HOOK:

“Rematch.”

Well, I guess I can’t complain about working during two straight set semi’s on the men’s side.  Djokovic continued to be the best player in the world and cruised against a very skilled Richard Gasquet in straight sets.  On the other side, my pick, Murray, went down to a Federer that is playing like 5 years ago.  He needs to.  He will need that Federer against the Djoker.  In this match, Federer hit 85% of his first serves in the first set.  Momentum is huge in tennis, and take that into the second set and you end up with a match where Murray never broke him once.  Amazing since Andy Murray had home field advantage big time.  Solid, Roger.  Should be a fun Sunday morning.  Upsets are fun in life.  Getting the best in the last game of something is pretty good too.

LINE:

“Scenery.”

I get it.  His PER has declined each of the past five years.  Deron Williams is not what he was.  But, he will be joining the hometown Mavs and here is my case of why this is good.  Dallas has shooters, which will stretch the floor (and no center coincidentally).  He played with Wesley Matthews in Utah, meaning old backcourt chemistry will occur.  Deron is 31 years old, which might be a little old for a PG, but he never was the fastest guy on the floor.  He is a large, stable PG with relative quickness and who can be a scorer when needed.  Will this make Dallas make the playoffs?  Probably not unless Williams gets All Star form.  Let’s not get carried away.  But, he will be worth this pickup, and I will be rooting for him from a basketball perspective.

SINKER:

“Liar.”

Mitch Kupchak says it is not demoralizing that the Lakers didn’t have any big time pickups.  All is good in his mind.  Bullshit.  Nice attempt at selling.  You got Brandon Bass, Lou Williams, and Roy Hibbert.  Not good.  Actually, that would not really even be good for a decent team.  For a bad team, that pretty much guarantees your favorite word is now “assets.”  Whatever, Mitch.  Your team has been the best MANY times over the decades.  Your fans only show up to playoff games.  You could just take Lakers for an all time team and compete with any other multi-team…team.  You failed in one of the meccas of NBA basketball no matter HOW you spin it.

That’s it.  Talk to you Sunday.  Peace.
